Museum info

The Natural History Museum is Milan's oldest civic museum. Founded in 1838 with the donation of the natural history collections of Giuseppe De Cristoforis and Giorgio Jan, it was the first Italian museum architecture, built between 1892 and 1907 to a design by architect Giovanni Ceruti and inspired by the great European natural history museums of the second half of the 19th century.

The exhibitions on the first floor of the Museum are arranged in spectacular dioramas illustrating the world's major natural environments: a unique exhibition in Italy in terms of breadth and representativeness. The rooms, dioramas, and display cases are continually updated.

The Museum has a library open to the public, one of the most important specialized in the field.
